What meal plan suits you best?

Updated June 22, 2023

Many of us are unsure of the difference between half-board and full-board, and which one suits our requirements best. We have written an informative guide to give you a better understanding of what each meal plan consists of.

So What Does Half-Board Mean?

With half-board meal plans, you can enjoy the luxury of a breakfast and evening meal being provided for you. This means you do not need to worry about cooking dinner after working or studying hard all day. Dinner usually consists of a main course of meat, fish, eggs, pasta, potatoes, rice and vegetables, or salad. Mmm… I’m feeling hungry just talking about this! What About Full-Board?

Guests living on a full-board scheme will have the luxury of being provided with breakfast, a packed lunch, and an evening meal. Packed lunch usually consists of a healthy and delicious sandwich, a packet of crisps, a fruit, and a drink. My favourite is a cheese and cucumber sandwich, and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. The main difference between the Half Board and Full Board meal plan boils down to the packed lunch which is included in the Full Board plan, but not in the Half Board plan.

Now, which meal plan should you choose? For this, you need to take into consideration your weekly budget, your working/study hours, your dietary preferences, among other factors. You may also want to have a bit of dietary freedom by choosing to buy your own daily lunch, for example, yet enjoy the breakfast and dinner with the host family, just like many of our guests do.

Here at Host Family Stay, we provide a range of meal plans including self-catering, bed & breakfast and half board. If you are still unsure as to what meal plan is better for you, or have any other questions, please contact us by clicking here and our friendly team will be able to answer all your questions.
